Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie Presides Over the Graduation of 77 New Correction Officers and Swearing-In Ceremony for Seven Appointees Including Members of Her Executive Leadership Team

Ceremony Will Also Celebrate the Promotion Of 50 Captains and Honor Staff Members for Their Dedication to the Department.

Department of Correction Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie will preside over a graduation ceremony for 77 new Correction Officers and a promotion ceremony for 50 Captains on Friday, June 7th at 12:30 PM at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard West, the Bronx. The event will also highlight the swearing-in and appointment of members of her executive leadership team. In addition, the Commissioner will honor six staff members who each have over 30 years of service with the department.

“These new correction officers have made the choice to embark on a noble career in public safety, one that will be challenging yet rewarding,” said Commissioner Maginley-Liddie. “The training and mentorship they will continue to receive will enable them to be consummate professionals and champions of the values this department stands for. I would like to thank the men and women who are taking an oath today to serve this department with integrity and compassion.”

The department continues to utilize NYPD’s state-of-the-art training facility in College Point, Queens as part of a 13-week training program. The recruits also received classroom training at the Correction Academy in Middle Village, Queens. The new recruits will now receive an additional eight weeks of field training inside New York City jails – in conjunction with veteran Field Training officers – where they will obtain critical hands-on experience.

The newly promoted Captains have completed 5-weeks of academy training and an additional 3 - weeks of field training to serve as frontline supervisors and will be assigned to serve in New York City jails.

Commissioner Maginley-Liddie will also swear in new members of her executive leadership team including First Deputy Commissioner Francis Torres and Bureau Chief/Chief of Staff Sherrieann Rembert.
