THE DEPARTMENT HOLDS THE LARGEST SWEARING-IN CEREMONY FOR CORRECTION OFFICER RECRUITS UNDER THE ADAMS ADMINISTRATION

This is the First Class of Recruits to Join DOC in 2025 and the Largest Since Before the Pandemic

College Point, N.Y. – NYC Department of Correction Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie will preside over a swearing-in ceremony for 182 recruits on Friday, May 30th at 1:00 pm at the New York City Police Academy: 130-30 28th Avenue in College Point, Queens.

“I am so proud to welcome these men and women as they embark on a rewarding career in corrections. This is the largest class of correction officer recruits since February 2019, and I applaud them for stepping up to serve our City,” said NYC Correction Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie. “The training and support they will receive from our Boldest Family over the coming months will enable them to serve with integrity, professionalism, and courage. We’ll be there to cheer them on at the end of this journey.”

Thanks to the department’s ongoing partnership with the NYPD, these recruits will now begin 15-weeks of rigorous training at its state-of-the-art training facility in College Point, Queens. Their training will include lessons from nationally recognized corrections professionals, de-escalation techniques, conflict resolution, suicide prevention, defensive tactics, law, jail procedure, firearms, CPR, Narcan administration, fire safety, and more.

At the end of their 15 weeks, the recruits will be sworn-in as Correction Officers at a graduation ceremony. Their training will then continue for several more weeks on Rikers Island for an immersive field training experience under the guidance and mentorship of veteran officers. This training model is how the department instills proper correctional practices, improves training, and makes its jails safer for our members of service, civilian staff, and people in custody.
