Welcome to the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) website. Our mission is to enrich the environment and protect public health for all New Yorkers by providing high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. Most of the content on this website is in English. This page will help you understand how to view our website’s content and materials in your language.

Using Google Translate

To navigate the DEP website from a desktop device using the Google Translate function:

  1. From any page, click on Translate on the top right-hand corner of your screen to see a list of available languages. Click on your language to select it.
  2. The text of the webpage will change, but some graphics and images will not.

Please note that the Google Translate function is an automated computer translation that is only an approximation of our website’s original content. DEP does not guarantee the accuracy of the translations through Google Translate.

Using the Document Portal

To view documents (such as PDFs) that have been professionally translated into your language, you can visit our Document Portal. To use the Document Portal:

  1. Go to the Document Portal webpage.
  2. Towards the top of this page, navigate to the drop-down list with the label that says Language. Click inside the box to see a list of available languages. Scroll to your language and select it.
  3. Click the button that says Submit.
  4. All of the documents that have been translated into your language will appear as results.
  5. For each result, click on the hyperlink that corresponds to your language to view the document in your browser.
