The New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) interns hosted an appreciation reception for their DDC supervisors. The event afforded an opportunity for supervisors to be recognized for mentoring DDC's interns throughout the summer. The reception also provided an opportunity for the students to reflect on their summer experience and express their appreciation to their division supervisors.
Commissioner Peña-Mora stated, “The many volunteer supervisors who mentored our high school students over the course of the summer represent the best of the best of the many different professions within our agency. They included representatives from Public Buildings, Infrastructure, the Office of Diversity and Industry Relations, Law, Program Management, Budget & Finance, Information Technology, Office of Community Outreach and Notifications, and STEAM Initiatives. As a result of their collective efforts our high school interns benefitted greatly from their sage advice and were able to learn a great deal from their professional and personal experiences.”
“Our high school interns were able to showcase the projects they created over the summer, which included study models of future public buildings along with 3D printed models of futuristic buildings designed in SketchUp and replicas of bioswales. Our students learned about the value of perseverance and professionalism in the workplace. We are extremely grateful to our supervisors for their commitment to our students and for their help in mentoring the next generation of built environment professionals,” stated Lee Llambelis, Deputy Commissioner of STEAM Initiatives.
