New York, NY – Today, the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) announced the launch of the updated CityStore website, completely redesigned for ease of access, and stocked with a bevy of newly available merchandise online. From an FDNY doggy-overcoat and a DSNY miniature garbage truck toy for kids, to a Central Park tea towel and a Brooklyn-inspired embroidered pillow crafted by a local artist, the new CityStore has a wide variety of city memorabilia and is the premiere location for authentic New York City merch.
“The CityStore is where civic pride meets creativity—and it’s just a click away,” said Department of Citywide Administrative Services Commissioner Louis A. Molina. “Whether you're a lifelong New Yorker or visiting for the first time, the new CityStore website offers a fun, easy way to bring home a piece of the city. As we upgrade our physical store, we're proud to make the website more accessible than ever, with fresh merch, local artistry, and official city flair, only available at the CityStore.”

Coinciding with the launch of CityStore online, the physical storefront, located at 1 Centre Street within the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building, will close for renovations for the summer beginning Thursday, July 17. As part of the renovations to the brick-and-mortar store, a new entrance to the store will be created on Centre Street that will better serve the space and increase accessibility for New Yorkers and tourists alike. During the CityStore closure, the Manhattan Office of the City Clerk location on Worth Street will remain open with limited stock.
“The temporary closure of the CityStore will create an opportunity to implement necessary enhancements aimed at delivering a modern and inviting experience for all visitors,” said DCAS CityStore Director Clara Ronk. “Additionally, it will facilitate the launch of exciting new products and sufficient space for future events. We are eagerly anticipating the reopening and the opportunity to offer our customers a modern & stylish atmosphere and great product selection.”

The first New York City CityStore—originally known as CityBooks—opened in December 1981 at 61 Chambers Street and was a small store that primarily sold copies of the Green Book and a few select souvenirs. In 1996, renovations to the building caused the store to relocate to the Municipal Building, where the physical store has resided since. Between 1997 and 1998, CityBooks was rebranded to CityStore in an effort to expand beyond book sales and grow the city’s goodwill with visitors and New Yorkers.
The CityStore is the official store of the City of New York, operated by the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services, with 100% of CityStore sales benefiting the City of New York.
