New accounts will increase touchpoints with shoppers, helping to promote official City of New York merchandise
New social media accounts follow other CityStore improvements, including a brand-new website and renovated brick-and-mortar storefront at 1 Centre Street.
New York, NY – Today, the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) Commissioner Yume Kitasei launched brand-new social media channels for CityStore, the official retail store of the City of New York. Now on Instagram and Facebook with the handle @citystorenyc, these accounts will expand the digital footprint of CityStore, increasing touchpoints for shoppers and helping to promote official City of New York merchandise. Operated by DCAS, CityStore offers a curated selection of NYC-themed merchandise—from branded apparel and iconic memorabilia to gifts that celebrate the city's unique character. Every purchase supports city programs and promotes civic pride.
"CityStore has always been one of my favorite places to shop for New York City-themed presents, and now we’re expanding its presence further,” said DCAS Commissioner Yume Kitasei. “After renovating the store at 1 Centre Street and redesigning our online shop, CityStore is stepping into yet another new era with the launch of new social media channels. Whether online or in person, I am proud that CityStore continues to evolve with the city it represents, expanding our reach and inviting even more people to experience the iconic energy of New York City.”
The new social media accounts follow several other recent upgrades to both the digital and physical footprints of the store.
In October 2025, DCAS successfully renovated the brick-and-mortar store on 1 Centre Street, modernizing and brightening the storefront with a fresh, open design. The in-house renovation also boasted a new dedicated entrance directly from Centre Street, welcoming foot traffic and making the store more accessible and inviting for both locals and visitors alike. As part of the reopening announcement, CityStore also introduced its first-ever official mascot: Muni the Pigeon, a bold, scrappy, and endearing character who symbolizes the resilience, pride, and everyday brilliance of New York City’s workforce. Pigeons are synonymous with life in the five boroughs — ever-present, adaptive, and iconically New York.
In addition to the flagship store at 1 Centre Street, CityStore continues to serve customers online at nyc.gov/citystore, with an expanded digital experience that mirrors the energy and modern feel of the physical space. The site was recently redesigned for ease of access and stocked with a bevy of newly available merchandise. With a wide variety of city memorabilia, CityStore online is the premier location for authentic New York City merch.
For those visiting the City Clerk’s Marriage Bureau, CityStore also maintains a charming outpost at 141 Worth Street, open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. The location features merchandise that celebrates love, marriage, and partnership — a perfect memento for newlyweds or couples tying the knot at the bureau.
Located at the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building at 1 Centre Street in lower Manhattan — for nearly three decades — the CityStore has been the official retail store of the City of New York.
The first New York City CityStore—originally known as CityBooks—opened in December 1981 at 61 Chambers Street and was a small store that primarily sold copies of the Green Book and a few select souvenirs. In 1996, renovations to the building caused the store to relocate to the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building, where the physical store has resided since. Between 1997 and 1998, CityBooks was rebranded to CityStore in an effort to expand beyond book sales and grow the city’s goodwill with visitors and New Yorkers.
