Joshua Ocampo

Joshua Ihke is a student at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus pursuing a degree in Political Science and International Relations. As part of their Jeanette K. Watson Fellowship, Josh has had the pleasure of working as an Engagement Fellow for New York City’s Office of Engagement, where they assisted in coordinating citywide engagement initiatives, strengthening agency outreach teams, and promoting community-driven solutions. Josh’s passion for civic engagement has led them to intern for Fighting Words in Dublin, Ireland, a not-for-profit organization that delivers community-driven creative writing programming and education to children and vulnerable adults. On Campus, Josh is active as part of the Pre-Law Society’s leadership board, overseeing an active partnership with Long Island University’s chapter of DemocracyNYC, in which they coordinate student engagement initiatives for voter registration events. Closer to their home in Flatbush, Josh volunteers for the Voices of Lefferts Oral History Project, where they interview Flatbush residents to preserve the vibrant stories of the community through oral history. When not active in community events, Josh enjoys riding their bike, chipping away at their books-to-read list, and trying out new Filipino eateries around the City.
