Gio Barcenes currently serves as Senior Director of External and Government Relations for City Year New York, an education nonprofit dedicated to helping students and schools succeed. In his role, Gio is responsible for developing relationships with city and state elected and appointed officials, and internal and external stakeholders to advance the mission of City Year New York. Prior to City Year, Gio worked in City government helping implement interagency and agency-specific projects at City Hall, the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection's Office of Financial Empowerment, and the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs. As a lifelong New Yorker and son of immigrant parents from El Salvador, Gio is committed to empowering diverse and underrepresented communities at the local level. A proud NYU alum, Gio holds a BA in Politics from the College of Arts and Sciences and an MPA from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
