Mayra Núñez’s Biography

Mayra Núñez is a dedicated educator, business owner and community advocate with a strong passion for serving and empowering others. Originally from the Dominican Republic, she came to the United States at a young age and is proud to advocate for the rights of others, unite the community and support positive change. She is grateful for the opportunities the United States has provided her to pursue her dreams and build a meaningful life for her family.

Ms. Núñez earned her associate’s degree from Bronx Community College, later obtaining her bachelor’s in bilingual education from City College. She is continuing her studies at Lehman College, where she is pursuing a master’s degree, and at Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra, where she pursuing her third diploma from Pontifical, already receiving two diplomas from Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, which makes for five diplomas in total.

Ms. Núñez has worked as a teacher while also owning and operating local businesses, including a restaurant and a beauty salon within her community. These experiences have helped her remain closely connected to the people she serves and develop a deep understanding of the community’s needs.

She is actively involved in the community via the Van Nest Neighborhood Alliance and other local organizations such as the 49th Precinct Community Council, regularly attending and participating in their meetings and events (the National Night Out Against Crime for example).

In addition to her professional and community work, Ms. Núñez is a devoted wife and proud mother of two children. Her family has been one of her greatest sources of support throughout her personal and professional journey.

First appointed to CB11 in 2025 as a Council Member Marmorato nominee, Ms. Núñez is always willing to collaborate, learn and contribute to strengthening her community. Her passion is education, mentorship and helping others reach their full potential through service and community involvement.
