Stephen D. Albright’s Biography

Stephen D. Albright, PhD is a scientist passionate about connecting science to the public sphere and shaping the scientific community to better serve the public. Throughout his career, he has strived to advocate for fellow scientists and for science-informed public policy that addresses critical global challenges. Stephen works at the New York Academy of Sciences, where he manages an awards program for young faculty researchers.

Stephen earned his Ph.D. in physics at Yale University. While at Yale, he organized and facilitated bystander intervention workshops to prevent and limit the harms of sexual misconduct. Before joining the New York Academy of Sciences, Stephen worked for the American Geophysical Union, where he advocated for the Earth and space sciences to policymakers in the federal government. He currently sits on the board of directors of Future of Research, a non-profit organization that advocates for fair and equitable treatment of early career researchers.

Stephen was appointed to Community Board 11 in 2021 by Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.
