Salsabeel Al-Silwi's Biography

Salsabeel "Salsa" Al-Silwi is a Yemeni American, who was born and raised in the Bronx. In 2019, she co-founded the Teens Initiative Program at her high school, CIMS (the Collegiate Institute for Math and Science). Teens Initiative is a student-run program based on the foundations of youth leadership, character and community building through various acts of community service.

Salsa has been an active member and volunteer of the Bronx Muslim Center. After graduating from CIMS, she was accepted into Barnard College, where she is currently studying pre-medicine.

In 2019, Salsa was a Yankee Award honoree. She was a Community Board 11 intern from July 2019 until April 2020, and in 2021, she was appointed to Community Board 11 by 15th Council District Member Oswald Feliz.
