Dominick Schiano’s Biography

Dominick “Dom” Schiano was born in Brooklyn but raised in the Bronx on East 205th Street, where he lived with his mother and sister. After graduating from high school, he attended Bronx Community College at night while working on Wall Street during the day, having a successful forty-year career before retiring from Goldman Sachs.

Dom was the epitome of a family man. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He was married for 46 years to his wife Irene, with which he had two children, Lisa and Robert. He was involved with Boy Scout Troop 170 and—for about ten years—the Pelham Parkway Little League, coaching his son’s baseball team. Dom was very proud of his children and got to watch them become successful adults, but his pride and joy were his granddaughters, Gianna and Alexis, whom he watched play softball for Pelham Bay Little League.

Dom was a true activist, starting the Bronx Park East neighborhood patrol, providing the patrol with a car from donations and street fairs. He continued his service to the community by being a Community Board 11 member for nine years, obtaining the titles of Acting First Vice Chair and Second Vice Chair before retirement in 2020, serving on the Parks & Recreation, Economic Development and Leadership Committees.

Dom was a longtime member of the 2244 Bronx Park East Owners Corporation Board, where he always made wrongs right, distributing protective face masks provided to him by the Community Board at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dom had a love for horseback riding from an early age, sharing that love with his children and grandchildren, arranging for annual trips to the Rocking Horse Ranch in Highland, New York. He was also a devout Catholic who attended mass every Saturday night at Saint Clare of Assisi Church on Rhinelander Avenue, where he served as an usher. He had a fundamental faith in humanity.

In late 2020, Dominick passed away with his family surrounding him via facetime because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
