Dan J. Montas Tran’s Biography

Dan J. Montas Tran is a dedicated Bronx community organizer, nonprofit leader, and advocate for civic, economic and health equity. Driven by a deep commitment to neighborhood-based solutions, Dan serves as the director of the Mott Haven Community Partnership—where he previously served as a community organizer—leading strategic initiatives, coalition building and resource distribution for families across the South Bronx. In his executive leadership roles, he focuses on designing and implementing community-first programs that empower youth, strengthening family stability, and expanding access to essential local resources.

Dan’s career is rooted in creating tangible opportunities for community advancement, cross-cultural unity and holistic well-being. A core priority throughout his work is promoting health, wellness and healthy outcomes for South Bronx residents. His initiatives target health disparities by advocating sustainable lifestyle changes, expanding access to fresh foods and incorporating wellness education into local programming.

Selected as a 2026 Fellow of the We Are the Bronx Fellowship Against Hate, Dan collaborates with borough leaders to combat discrimination, foster solidarity and build safer, more inclusive neighborhoods. Through his work with the Mott Haven Community Partnership during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dan worked closely with the community fridge and implemented pop-up food pantries that fed thousands of residents across the South Bronx. His broader leadership spans multi-faceted public initiatives, including organizing networking events with professionals and leaders citywide. Beyond emergency relief, Dan has worked with CUNY Citizenship Now! to assist legal permanent residents through the naturalization process and has coordinated the Civic Exchange Initiative alongside New York City Council members to bridge the gap between residents and city resources.

Grounded in both practical experience and formal study, Dan holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Queens College and is expecting his Master of Science in Business Management and Leadership from the CUNY School of Professional Studies in December 2026. His visionary advocacy for inclusion, health equity and local economic development has earned him top recognition across New York City and State. His leadership in the Bronx was formally recognized by Ponce Bank in both 2022 and 2023, alongside the 2025 ACS LGBTQ & Ally Award for Advocacy and Inclusivity, an official proclamation from Governor Kathy Hochul’s Office for creating and organizing the landmark Pride Celebration & Networking Panel Conference in the South Bronx, and a citation from NYS Assembly Member Amanda Septimo (84th District). He has also been recognized as a member of Schneps Media’s Bronx 2021 Power List and an A-List Bronx Extraordinary Man in 2022. Whether organizing youth workshops, building academic pathways with local high schools or managing community health and wellness partnerships, Dan continues to focus his efforts on creating long-term, structural support for South Bronx residents.

A fluent Spanish speaker, Dan was appointed to CB11 in 2026 as a Council Member Aldebol nominee.
