The New York City Percent for Art (PFA) Program allows City Agencies the opportunity to acquire, commission, or restore works of art for City-owned properties throughout the five boroughs. Each Borough-Based Jail Facility project is participating in the City of New York’s Percent for Art Program. The artwork commissioned through Percent for Art is not the only artwork that will be in the facility; the facility design may include graphics, for example, and murals and other artwork may be created after the facility is occupied.
The New York City Department of Design and Construction seeks artists interested in being commissioned to provide artwork for the New York City Borough-Based Jails Program. The City will be selecting artists soon for upcoming artwork commissions at the Bronx, Queens, and Manhattan BBJ facilities. These commissions will be an opportunity for selected artists to make a lasting improvement to the facilities and have a positive impact on people in custody, their family and friends, facility staff, neighbors, and others in the greater community.
