Child Care

Four children with their hands up

ACS provides resources to help parents with their child care needs and support providers and people who are running child care programs. For qualifying families, child care programs provide free or low-cost child care for children 6 weeks to 13 years old (or to 19 years old for children with disabilities). Child care vouchers help cover the cost of child care at hundreds of home-based and center-based providers across the city.

If you are a parent, caregiver or other family member looking for more information about child care, please go to the Families page.

If you are a child care provider or interested in being a child care provider, please go to the Providers page.

See below for recent reports about child care.

  • Child Care Community Connection Project: Final Report: Through this project, community-based organizations provided hands-on support to families applying for child care assistance and found that, more support, resulted in increased access to services.
  • Assessing Child Care Needs: This study, conducted by NORC, aimed to better understand barriers preventing eligible families from using their vouchers, factors impacting parents’ decision-making when choosing a provider, and incentives and barriers for child care providers participating in the voucher program.
