Help in a Crisis

Being a parent can be challenging. Here’s what to do if you find yourself almost at the breaking point.

Someone is hurting you or your child.

You can’t cope. You need to talk.

You can’t care for your newborn.

The Abandoned Infant Protection Act is a New York State law that allows a parent to abandon a newborn baby up to 30 days of age anonymously and without fear of prosecution -- if the baby is abandoned in a safe manner, meaning:

  • The infant is left with an appropriate person or in a suitable location;
  • and the parent promptly notifies an appropriate person of the infant’s location.
