New Yorkers for Children Book Drive for Children in ACS Care

On May 19, the New Yorkers For Children (NYFC) Friends Committee hosted its first ever book drive to fill the library at the ACS Nicholas Scoppetta Children’s Center, located at 492 First Avenue, New York. Friends Committee members Clare McKeon, Allison Aston, Natalia Echavarria, Ila Marisa Natalia, Hana Briton, Marisa Brown, Elisabeth Jones-Hennessy, Stefania Allen, Ayla Farnos, Kate Hudson Davidson, and Lauren Jones Kenny interacted with children in temporary placement at the center, reading them books from the library, doing arts and crafts activities and engaging the children in playtime. A face painting artist who transformed the children’s faces into their chosen characters was also on hand, courtesy of the Committee. Throughout the day, Friends Committee members helped organize and label donated books. The group was accompanied by Erin Kuchar, NYFC Manager of Special Events. ACS staffers Sonia Galarza, Director of In-Kind Contributions and Pro-Bono Resources, and Katia Pierre, Children’s Center Director, hosted the visitors.
