As a Level II Trauma and 911 receiving hospital, Metropolitan Hospital Center provides emergent, urgent, and sub-urgent care to adult, pediatric and psychiatric patients.
Our Emergency Department is also a 911 receiving center for victims of sexual assault, and has been designated a Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) Center of Excellence by the New York State Department of Health. Our Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) is a victim-sensitive program, designed to provide a team approach to victims of acute sexual assault. The team is comprised of specially trained Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners, medical personnel, patient advocates, social workers, law enforcement officers (Special Victims Unit) and representatives of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office Sex Crimes Unit.
SART services offered include:
- Medical evaluation in the Emergency Department
- Examination by specially trained sexual assault forensic examiners
- Crisis intervention
- Counseling/referrals
Our Emergency Department is committed to monitoring, assessing, evaluating and continuously improving the quality of patient care it provides to the community. We do so through the provision of emergency health services to all persons who present without regard to race, ethnic or national origin, sex or sexual orientation, physical disability, religion, ability to pay or ultimate source of payment.
