Next Generation of Sidewalk Sheds Unveiled

The Department recently unveiled the prototype for the Urban Umbrella - the winning design from the urbanSHED International Design Competition. This new design beat 163 other submissions by architects, engineers, designers and students from around the world. Young-Hwan Choi, who created the initial design, was supported by Andres Cortes RA and Sarrah Khan PE, both from the New York-based design firm Agencie Group. The prototype will soon be installed at a building in Lower Manhattan.

Did You Know...?

Since Construction Safety Week in April, the Department has distributed 10,000 orange bracelets as part of our Experience Is Not Enough safety campaign.

By distributing posters and bracelets to construction sites throughout the City, we're reminding workers that safety equipment saves lives.

If you'd like to distribute these at your construction site, email us at safetyweek@buildings.nyc.gov.
