Findings Released in Fatal Elevator Accident

The Department of Buildings and Department of Investigation have released their findings in the fatal elevator accident at 285 Madison Avenue in December. The investigations reveal that workers failed to follow basic safety procedures that would have prevented the tragedy. DOB also conducted the most expansive elevator sweep in the Department's history - inspecting 658 elevators across the City. Inspectors found no conditions similar to those related to the December fatality.

New Buildings Bulletins

2012-003 clarifies "predominantly built-up area" bulk regulations for existing residential buildings.  

2012-002 sets standards for fuel-gas compressors, duct burners and heat recovery steam generators in cogeneration and combined heat and power (CHP) projects.

2012-001 outlines criteria for buffers, interlocks, elevator entrances, wedge shackles, elevator governors and elevator brakes.
