Involving the Community in Selecting Precinct Commanders

NYPD in link formation in precinct

New York City is taking historic steps to deepen the bonds between community and police. Communities now help determine which police official will command their local precinct. Neighborhood stakeholders are involved in the selection process, and provide feedback on the candidates. Providing public input is an invaluable way to ensure the voice of residents is heard in how their community is policed. Since its launch in April 2021, the community preference has been accepted in every command hiring selection.
