LAW DEPARTMENT APPOINTS RONALD MURIEL AS NEW CHIEF OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

New York City Acting Corporation Counsel Muriel Goode-Trufant today announced the appointment of Ronald Muriel as the Law Department’s new Chief of Information Technology.

Mr. Muriel comes to the Law Department with over 30 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, most recently as the IT Chief Operations Officer at the Department of Finance. At DOF, he managed day-to-day IT operations with an emphasis on improving infrastructure costs, performance, and user satisfaction. Prior to his public sector service, Ronald worked for UBS Investment Bank, a multinational investment bank and financial services company.

“Today we have added a talented technology leader with over three decades of experience to our Law Department family,” said Acting Corporation Counsel Muriel Goode-Trufant. “His experience and expertise make him superbly qualified to lead the critical computing and technology teams that support the important work of this office.”

Mr. Muriel will oversee the Information Technology Division, which is responsible for all aspects of computing and technology use, including network infrastructure, network security, connectivity, data management, information security, application support, database administration, software administration, technical support and much more. His focus will be innovation, customer service, and cybersecurity.

“The Law Department is such a vital agency in City government, improving the lives of New Yorkers on so many fronts,” said Mr. Muriel. “I look forward to working with talented colleagues to further the agency’s mission and strengthen its ability to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.”

Mr. Muriel earned a degree in Technology Management from Fairfield University in Connecticut.
