As part of the Law Department’s Strategic Advocacy Initiative, today the City joined New York Attorney General Letitia James and a coalition of 23 cities and states in a lawsuit challenging a federal rule issued by the Department of Health and Human Services. The rule seeks to expand the ability of businesses and individuals to refuse to provide necessary health care on the basis of “religious beliefs or moral convictions.”
The following individuals from our Affirmative Litigation Division handled the matter with supervision by Division Chief Gail Rubin: Senior Counsel Cynthia Weaver, Assistant Corporation Counsel Otis Comorau, and Deputy Chief for Strategic Litigation Tonya Jenerette.
The City’s press release and lawsuit can be found here.
