NYC DOC Swears In First Recruit Officer Class of 2025

NYC DOC Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie presided over a swearing-in ceremony for 182 recruits on May 30 at the NYPD Academy in College Point. This latest class represents the largest since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the next 15 weeks, the recruits will train in, among other areas, de-escalation techniques, conflict resolution, suicide prevention, defensive tactics, law, jail procedure and firearms. At the conclusion, they will then be sworn-in as Correction Officers and advance to an immersive field training program under the guidance and mentorship of veteran officers. This training model is how the department instills proper correctional practices, improves training, and makes its jails safer for our members of service, civilian staff, and people in custody.

“I am so proud to welcome these men and women as they embark on a rewarding career in corrections. This is the largest class of correction officer recruits since February 2019, and I applaud them for stepping up to serve our City,” said Commissioner Maginley-Liddie. “The training and support they will receive from our Boldest Family over the coming months will enable them to serve with integrity, professionalism, and courage. We’ll be there to cheer them on at the end of this journey.”
