Sebastian Sharma is the Director of Economic Development at the NYC Mayor’s Office for International Affairs, where he advances New York City’s global economic strategy by fostering connections between international businesses, trade commissions, and the City’s economic development agencies. His work focuses on promoting New York City’s economy globally, supporting small businesses and women- and minority-led enterprises, and attracting international businesses to the five boroughs.
In this role, Sebastian organizes and participates in international trade missions, conferences, and other events to strengthen NYC’s global economic presence. He works closely with chambers of commerce, trade commissions, and consulates to convene business and CEO roundtables, providing international companies with the resources and insights needed to successfully expand into New York City.
Previously, Sebastian served as the Policy and Strategic Initiatives Associate at the NYC Mayor’s Office for International Affairs, where he supported the Office in advancing the City’s global engagement through policy development and strategic partnerships.
Sebastian graduated summa cum laude from Fordham University with a double major in Economics and International Studies. He authored a senior thesis titled “Artificial Intelligence and Economic Development in Ghana: Assessing the Role of Government Policy and Regulation,” which examined the importance of transparent governance to ensure equitable economic outcomes from AI deployment.
