Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, Civic Engagement Commission, NYC Service Hosted Roundtable on Upcoming Civic Engagement Initiatives

NEW YORK, NY— The Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA), the Civic Engagement Commission (CEC), and NYC Service hosted an in-person Ethnic and Community Media Roundtable Wednesday, June 14th at NYC Service headquarters where leadership from these offices discussed an upcoming series of civic engagement opportunities open to New Yorkers.

During the roundtable, CEC Chair Dr. Sarah Sayeed shared information and answered questions about The People's Money citywide participatory budgeting process, while Commissioner Castro discussed the importance of civic engagement for immigrant communities and the unique engagement opportunity presented by participatory budgeting. Chief Service Officer Laura Rog highlighted the NYC Service Spread Love Campaign's Civic Power month, which hosts civic engagement volunteer opportunities open to residents.

Finally, Chief Democracy Officer Kathleen Daniel provided detailed information on the June Primary Election, which will feature Ranked Choice Voting and a $2 million educational campaign run by DemocracyNYC. She answered questions on language access at poll sites and opportunities for engagement with ethnic media. Early voting is open June 17-25 and Election Day is June 27. "The People's Money" is New York City's first-ever citywide participatory budgeting process.
