Thank you for taking the time to visit the website for DOI’s Office of the Inspector General for the New York City Police Department (OIG-NYPD), which focuses on critical issues facing policing in New York City. Most recently, OIG-NYPD reports have focused on such topics as NYPD’s Criminal Group Database, use of social media, and compliance with the Public Oversight of Surveillance Technology (POST) Act.

You can find out more about our work on the “Reports and Statements of Findings” tab and this site also highlights frequently asked questions about the office and how to submit a complaint. You can also review the authorizing language for the office in the City Charter.

OIG-NYPD is at an exciting moment – recently onboarding a number of new staff members and currently in the process of recruiting an Inspector General to lead the unit.
