Welcome to the website for DOI’s Office of the Inspector General for the New York City Police Department (OIG-NYPD), which conducts critical and systemic oversight of policing issues in New York City through its examination of NYPD operations, policies, programs and practices.

Recent reports include an Update on NYPD’s Implementation of DOI’s 2023 Criminal Group Database Recommendations, the OIG-NYPD’s Annual Report, and An Assessment of NYPD’s Use of Social Media. The OIG-NYPD site also highlights frequently asked questions about the office and how to submit a complaint. You can also review the authorizing language for the office in the City Charter.
