A Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request is a request to obtain records/documents from New York State or local government agencies. DOI proactively publishes the public findings of investigations on our
reports page, so it may be useful to check before making a FOIL request. When available, the following information should be included in the request:
• Relevant details
• Time period to be searched
• Type(s) of record(s) requested
Please remember, the more specific the FOIL request, the easier it will be for us to perform an expedient search and to locate responsive and relevant documentation.
Please note that FOIL requests are intended for obtaining records and are not suitable for comments or questions requiring a response.
