Guests Discuss Job Opportunities, the Civil Service System, and the Importance of Public Service
NEW YORK – The NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) today announced the release of the fourth episode of its Inside Citywide podcast. This episode focuses on career opportunities working for the City of New York, including the types of jobs available, the advantages of working for the City, how to navigate the civil service system, and much more. Working for the City of New York offers employees a good job and a rewarding mission. With over 400,000 employees, the City hires people of every background. The guests are DCAS Executive Deputy Commissioner Dawn Pinnock and NYC Department of Correction Assistant Commissioner Claudette Hamilton.
The Inside Citywide podcast offers a behind-the-scenes look at New York City government, what it does, and the public servants who make it happen. The podcast is co-hosted by Nick Benson, Director of Communications for DCAS, and Belinda French, Diversity & EEO Officer for DCAS.

Guest Bios
Dawn Pinnock
Dawn M. Pinnock is the Executive Deputy Commissioner for People Operations and Risk Management at the Department of Citywide Administrative Service (DCAS). In her role, she maintains citywide oversight of services provided to the human resources, equal employment, and diversity and inclusion departments serving at every agency. Within DCAS, she ensures the provision of quality services to agency employees. Her office drives workforce excellence through increased compliance with civil service and employment law, the identification and mitigation of risks that impact DCAS' performance and improves workplace culture through fair and inclusive employment and promotion practices.
Dawn's city career spans over 23 years and her work impacts the nearly 400,000 employees serving the City of New York. Dawn joined the DCAS team in 2014 as the Deputy Commissioner of Human Capital. She previously served in other leadership roles at some of the City's largest agencies, including the New York City Transit Authority where she served as Vice President of Human Resources and at the New York City Housing Authority where she served as the Director of Human Resources.
She holds a Master of Science in Urban Policy Analysis and Management from The New School for Social Research and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baruch College. She is a Certified Human Resource Professional, and a member of both the Association for Talent Development and the Society of Human Resource Management.
Claudette Hamilton
Claudette Hamilton serves as the Assistant Commissioner of HR Operations for the NYC Department of Correction (DOC). In her role, she oversees and manages the offices engaged in hiring, promotions, civil service administration, employee separation, leave management, benefit administration, records management, payroll, and timekeeping.
Claudette has an extensive career with the City of New York and prides herself on being a dedicated civil servant who took her first job in the United States and with the City in 1985 when she served as a Secretary to the Executive Director in the Department of Transportation. Not intimated by hard work and challenged by the compelling nature of each position, she rose through the ranks, excelling at each opportunity.
She has served in various capacities in the Department of Transportation, Department of Finance, Administration for Children’s Services and most currently at the Department of Correction. Claudette is passionate about public service, thrives on results, and models her behavior to staff and motivates them to be BOLD, expect results, and treat each other with respect.
Claudette received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Finance (B.Sc.) from Brooklyn College and her Master’s degree in Human Resources Management (M.Sc.) from the New School University. She enjoys riding her bike, engaging in exercise activities to promote wellness, and loves to garden. She relishes quiet time with her family.

About the NYC Department of Correction
The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment while providing individuals in our care with a path to successfully re-enter their communities. The Department provides for the care and custody of people ordered held by the courts and awaiting trial or who are convicted and sentenced to one year or less of jail time. DOC manages 8 facilities housing people in custody,7 of which are located on Rikers Island. The Department also operates two hospital wards (Bellevue and Elmhurst hospitals) and court facilities in each borough.
