The Bronx borough-based jail will be located at the site of the former Lincoln Hospital and NYPD compound at 745 E 141st Street. The new, state of the art facility will have dedicated space for on-site services and programming, indoor and outdoor recreation, food services, staff offices and facilities, amenities, below grade accessory parking, and a secured entry (sally port).
The new facility will contain 1040 beds for men. In addition, the facility will provide 40,000 sq. ft. of community space on the ground floor. The western portion of the facility can eventually be rezoned into a special, mixed-use district which will permit the development of a mixed-use building.
The Department of Design and Construction (DDC) awarded two separate Design-Build contracts — one for the new facility and one for the site preparation project.
