Connecting New Yorkers to Job Opportunities
April 11, 2024
The Adams administration is heading into different corners of NYC to ensure more people can access our city’s thriving job market.

What we've done
With a fully recovered job market, Mayor Adams is now rolling out a new effort to connect more Black and Brown New Yorkers to new career opportunities right from their neighborhood.
This effort follows last year’s popular hiring halls that aimed to connect more New Yorkers to city jobs. By bringing public and private job opportunities to our revamped hiring halls, we can offer New Yokers different opportunities and gateways to more successful futures. And we’re going to do it differently by going into underserved neighborhoods and communities rather than having New Yorkers come to us.
Fast facts
- Jobs NYC focuses on three core pillars: revamping our hiring halls, launching a new talent portal, and reforming qualification requirements to make entry-level city jobs easier to obtain
- In June 2023, Mayor Adams removed the bachelor’s degree requirement for city jobs
- Last year hiring halls were held in each borough and at different locations to connect with New Yorkers
- Earlier this year we also celebrated recovering all the public-private jobs that were lost during the pandemic
- New effort aims to make our thriving job market equitable, trying to overcome the high unemployment rate among Black and Brown New Yorkers
Why it matters
Everyone in our city deserves a piece of our thriving economy and business sector, and our new Jobs NYC effort is the key to that. Furthermore, we are doubling down on building out a more equitable job market that provides opportunities for more Black and Brown New Yorkers so they can provide for themselves and their families.
Earlier this year at Mayor Adams’ State of the City address, he recommitted to building out our working people’s city – a goal that can only be done if we continue to be laser focused on ensuring every corner and every borough can obtain a job and can have the training and support needed to build up their resumes and experience.
