NYC Mayor's Office of Media & Entertainment header
AUGUST 2026
Dear MOME Community,

Well, it’s been six months since I started my work as Commissioner, and my mandate has been clear: to increase access for New Yorkers to our media and entertainment industries. We are doing that by launching more free training programs, providing free tickets to movie theatres and attracting productions to film here and create jobs.

To attract those productions, such as A Quiet Place and The Gilded Age, we are making filming frictionless on the streets of NYC, and spreading the word of the benefits of the state’s amended tax credit. I’m also trying to have a little fun and educate people (talking to you Tom Holland) about how we can permit the streets to film in NY. These are exciting times in the City of NY. More to come.

All the best,
Rafael Espinal

MOME Spotlight: NY Music Month
ny music month graphic
That’s a Wrap on the Biggest New York Music Month Yet! The ninth annual City-run festival drew an estimated 11,000 participants to 65 free events and programs across the city. Approximately 440 artists and industry leaders took part, with programming produced in partnership with over 70 NYC music companies and organizations. The month also provided 2,540 hours of free rehearsal space to more than 600 musicians at four studios citywide. Since launching in 2017 with just five events, NYMM has:

•  Grown thirteenfold
•  Extended beyond the five boroughs into Liverpool Music Month
•  Inspired artists, such as one 2026 Australian attendee who quit her job and moved to New York to participate in the month of programming
