Dear MOME Community,
Since becoming Commissioner my focus has been simple: make New York the best place in the world to produce film and television by working alongside studios, unions, city agencies, and the communities that make this industry possible. I'm so excited to see our efforts are working, as ProdPro's Outlook Report for 2026 listed New York as the top preferred hub for filming among surveyed execs. You can see that report here, and see highlights about New York's recent production spending surge in this Hollywood Reporter story. This work is just the beginning. More production is an important first step. The real measure of success is when the workers who power this industry feel the impact.

Before submitting your permit application, check the NYC Film Office Hot Spot Map to see areas with high filming activity, construction, or other conditions that may affect your shoot. Planning ahead can help you identify alternate locations and avoid potential scheduling conflicts. |

The New York State Independent Film Production Tax Credit Program supports independent filmmakers and reflects New York State's continued commitment to growing the independent film industry. Eligible productions can claim their tax credit in the same year the project is completed, providing earlier access to the benefit.
The current application window is open through November 12, 2026 (or until available funds are exhausted). Eligible productions must begin principal and ongoing photography within 180 days of submitting their initial application. Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Looking ahead, the 2027 application windows are:
January 11 – April 29, 2027
July 12 – November 12, 2027

As productions continue filming across the five boroughs, we appreciate your partnership in helping keep New York City safe, clean, and accessible for everyone. A few reminders:
Keep Sidewalks Clean & Use Covered Trash Containers
Production trash should be placed in covered containers whenever possible to help keep sidewalks clean, prevent litter, and deter pests. Please ensure trash is properly contained and disposed of at the end of each filming day.
Cover Cables at Crosswalks
Any cables crossing a pedestrian path or crosswalk must be protected with approved cable ramps or covers to minimize trip hazards and maintain safe, accessible passage for pedestrians, including individuals using wheelchairs, strollers, or other mobility devices.

"Made In NY" Production Assistant Training Program |
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the "Made in NY" Production Assistant Training Program, a partnership between the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment and Brooklyn Workforce Innovations (BWI). The free, four-week program prepares unemployed and low-income New Yorkers for entry-level careers in film and television production while helping build a diverse, skilled local workforce.
