About NYCDOB Training Connect
In the fall of 2021, the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) introduced NYC DOB Training Connect, a web-based platform designed to centralize the needed information used in validating the site safety training (SST) required of construction workers. All DOB-approved Course Providers are required to use the platform to manage SST records for their students and to issue official NYC DOB Training Connect SST identification cards.

Background
On October 16, 2017, New York City Local Law 196 (LL196) went into effect requiring construction workers to complete site safety training courses and to have an identification card as proof of completion of their training. Beginning the fall of 2018, the NYC Department of Buildings approved Course Providers began training construction workers and issuing site safety training identification cards (SST IDs).
When the first LL196 training deadlines passed, Course Providers were initially authorized to manage training records and issue SST cards using their own designs and proprietary systems. This presented challenges for the industry, from workers to employers, making it difficult to verify the validity of the various versions of the SST cards. In response to these challenges the NYC Department of Buildings hired a vendor to design, develop and implement a centralized system to produce a uniformed standard SST ID card.
The official NYC DOB Training Connect card will replace all previously issued SST ID cards. DOB expects the transition to be completed in 2022. In the meantime, employers and other construction stakeholders can expect workers to have both the old cards (previously issued cards) and the new NYC DOB Training Connect SST ID cards through early 2022.
