Event Marks First In-Person Alumni Dinner Since Before the Pandemic
Distinguished Guests Include Former Corporation Counsel James Johnson & Acting Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, Anthony Cannataro
On November 2, 120 current staff and alumni of the Law Department, including former City Corporation Counsels and judges, gathered for the office’s alumni dinner at New York Law School. The bi-annual event was the first in-person gathering of alumni since before the pandemic. New York City Corporation Counsel Sylvia Hinds-Radix presented an award to James E. Johnson, the 79th Corporation Counsel, honoring him for his leadership of the office during the onset of the pandemic. She also recognized special guest Honorable Anthony Cannataro, Acting Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, who began his legal career at the agency in 1996. The Corporation Counsel also commended New York Law School and its Dean Anthony Crowell (also an alum) for hosting the event, and acknowledged the numerous esteemed alumni present who are current members of the judiciary.
“This dinner is a longstanding tradition recognizing the remarkable people working in one of the finest legal offices in the country and its alumni who hold some of the most prestigious legal positions in this City,” said Corporation Counsel Hinds-Radix. “It was a pleasure to honor Jim Johnson for his steadfast leadership of the Law Department during one of the most challenging times in our City’s history. I also thank Judge Cannataro for taking the time to attend and reflect upon how his tenure at the Law Department shaped his career as a distinguished member of the judiciary. The fact that we could gather in person to see each other and acknowledge the terrific work of these individuals, and the work that the Law Department does on behalf of the City, made this dinner even more special.”
