Statement from Corporation Counsel James E. Johnson Following U.S. Supreme Court Argument

“New York City argued today in the U.S. Supreme Court that New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. City of New York is moot. New York City met petitioners’ demands, and New York State passed a law ensuring that petitioners have the ability to transport their firearms to authorized locations beyond the City. The City’s old, defunct gun rule cannot be revived. Petitioners should not receive a constitutional ruling on a law no longer on the books.”
