Statement from Mayor de Blasio on East New York Neighborhood Plan

April 20, 2016

On April 20, 2016, the City Council approved the East New York rezoning proposal with modifications. The modified zoning and plan can be accessed at the NYC Council website. For more details, visit the NYC Department of City Planning website.

"The East New York neighborhood plan represents a new contract with our communities. For the very first time, protecting tenants and building truly affordable housing have become the priorities they need to be in a rezoning. The commitments we are making - from a new school, to renovated parks, to investments in good jobs - are real. We have dedicated the funding needed to make them happen. I congratulate Council Member Rafael Espinal, who was determined to seize this opportunity to correct years of underinvestment in East New York and to deliver a plan that genuinely improved the lives of his constituents. We listened hard to local officials and stakeholders, and the result will be a brighter and more promising future for the people of East New York."
