NEW YORK—On Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Bill de Blasio welcomed United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to City Hall.
Mayor de Blasio congratulated Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on his successful tenure, most notably for his leadership on the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals. The United Nations and New York City have shared visions for a more sustainable and equitable world.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon thanked Mayor de Blasio for New York City's strong leadership on climate action. He commended New York City on its local development initiatives.
The Mayor and Secretary-General both discussed the UN Economic Impact Report, recently released by the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs. The Mayor said that the UN was a great blessing to New York City and the Secretary-General thanked the Mayor for supporting the UN.
Mayor de Blasio then presented the Secretary-General with a proclamation proclaiming today, December 13, 2016 as Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Day in the City of New York.
