Transcript: Mayor de Blasio and First Lady Mccray Speak at Global Citizens Festival in Central Park

September 27, 2014

First Lady Chirlane McCray: Welcome, global citizens!

[Applause]

I’m so happy to see you. And thank you for being here for our children, our families, and our planet.

Citizen Bill?

Mayor Bill de Blasio: Thank you Citizen Chirlane.

To everyone – welcome.

This has been an extraordinary week in global history. A week ago, with a march here in New York City, hundreds of thousands taking on climate change all over the world, the same thing – and now, with this festival, a commitment to eradicating poverty all over the world – people acting as global citizens, people building a global movement. I thank you, on behalf of 8.4 million New Yorkers, for all you are doing, g=for all you did to be here today.

We together can change this world. We together can eradicate poverty by 2030, all over this world.

Thank you and God bless you everyone.

[Applause]
