Transcript: Mayor Adams Appears on Telemundo 47’s “Noticias Telemundo”

Yolanda Vásquez: Hola, qué tal. Muy buenas tardes. Como en el verano las temperaturas suben, también en los temas que tienen que ver con la alcaldía de la ciudad de Nueva York. Y hoy llegamos hasta aquí, hasta Gracie Mansion, para preguntarle al alcalde Eric Adams sobre varios asuntos de mucha actualidad.

Señor alcalde, muy buenas tardes. Hay cuatro altos miembros de la policía de Nueva York que están alegando, en una demanda, que las posiciones y las promociones en el departamento estaban para la venta. ¿Qué tiene usted que decir al respecto?

Translation: Hi, how are you? Very good afternoon. In the summer, as temperatures rise, so do the issues that have to do with the mayor of New York City. And today we came here, to Gracie Mansion, to ask Mayor Eric Adams about several very current issues.

Mr. Mayor, very good afternoon. There are four top members of the NYPD who are alleged, in a lawsuit, that positions and promotions in the department were for sale. What do you have to say about it?

Mayor Eric Adams: El departamento legal revisará todo el caso y dará el siguiente paso. Todos deben desempeñar sus funciones al más alto nivel y con la mayor integridad. Y nos aseguraremos de que el departamento legal lo haga, realice una revisión y determine con precisión el resultado de este caso.

Translation: The legal department will review the entire case and take the next step. Everyone must perform their duties at the highest level and with the greatest integrity. And we will ensure that the legal department does so, conducts a review and accurately determines the outcome of this case.

Vásquez: Pero como el tema de la crisis migratoria sigue aquí, y es que aunque solo queden pocos migrantes bajo el cuidado de la ciudad, hay todavía muchos jóvenes recién llegados que buscan oportunidades de empleo. ¿Tiene usted opciones para ellos en este momento?

Translation: But since the issue of the migration crisis is still here, and although there are only a few migrants left under the care of the city, there are still many recently arrived young people looking for employment opportunities. Do you have options for them at this time?

Mayor Adams: Logramos que un gran número de personas recibiera una autorización de trabajo. Esto equilibra ya que necesitamos muchos empleos.

Translation: We managed to get a large number of people to receive work authorization. This balances since we need many jobs.

Vásquez: Y hablamos de vivienda. ¿Cuántas ha entregado a familias de bajos recursos en su periodo?

Translation: And we talked about housing. How many units have you delivered to low-income families in your period?

Mayor Adams: Las cifras son claras. Nuestro objetivo en materia de vivienda durante mis cuatro años de mandato superará los 12 años del alcalde Bloomberg y los ocho años del alcalde de Blasio juntos.

Translation: The figures are clear. Our housing goal during my four years in office will exceed Mayor Bloomberg's 12 years and Mayor de Blasio's eight years combined.

Vásquez: Cuando pasaron las primarias y todo el mundo estaba hablando de cómo Mamdani le haya ganado a Cuomo y él estaba también entonces ahora en la contienda del alcalde Eric Adams, el presidente de los Estados Unidos dice que usted es la persona indicada, que es un buen líder.

¿Le hubiera gustado a usted que él se hubiera quedado callado y no hiciera ningún comentario o aprecia que él lo hubiera mencionado?

Translation: When the primaries were over and everyone was talking about how Mamdani beat Cuomo and he was also now in the race with Mayor Eric Adams, the president of the United States says that you are the right person, that you are a good leader.

Do you wish he had stayed silent and not made any comments or do you appreciate that he had mentioned it?

Mayor Adams: ¿Quién no quiere escuchar cosas buenas de uno? ¿Saben? Hay todavía muchas personas que hablan bien de mí, soy una buena persona. Y lo que verán en esta contienda es que hay muchas personas que intentarán distraerlos de los problemas.

Yo no me postulo contra el gobernador, ni contra el presidente, ni contra un congresista. Me postulo para la alcaldía de los neoyorquinos.

Translation: Who doesn't want to hear good things about yourself, you know? There are still many people who speak well of me, I am a good person. And what you will see in this race is that there are many people who will try to distract you from the problems.

I am not running against the governor, nor against the president, nor against a congressman. I'm running for mayor of New York.

Vásquez: Y mientras el alcalde se muestra seguro de poder continuar otros cuatro años trabajando para los neoyorquinos, dice, espera que la comunidad Latina le pueda brindar su apoyo para que esto sea una realidad.

Translation: And while the mayor is confident that he can continue working for New Yorkers for another four years, he says, he hopes that the Latino community can give him their support to make this a reality.
