Mayor Bloomberg Signs Legislation Implementing Recommendations of the Lobbying Commission

December 17, 2013

Remarks by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

“The first of fifteen bills before me today is Introductory Number 1172-A sponsored in conjunction with our Administration by Speaker Quinn and Council Members Brewer, Koo, Koslowitz, Van Bramer, Rodriguez, Gennaro and Halloran.

“This legislation implements the recommendations of the Lobbying Commission, appointed by myself and Speaker Quinn in February of 2011 and whose final report was released on March 13th of this year.

“In addition to enhanced reporting on lobbying activities this legislation expands the definition of lobbying activities to include a wider range of efforts to influence elected officials and increases the threshold to require registration as a lobbyist from $2,000 to $5,000 annually.

“I would like to thank the members of the Lobbying Commission and my Deputy Counselor Bill Heinzen for his work on this bill along with my Office of City Legislative Affairs. I would also like to thank the City Council for approving this legislation.”
