Mayor Bill de Blasio: It is an honor to be here in my home precinct and to be here with Commissioner Bratton and so many other leaders of this police force to be a part of this special day. This is the first retirement walk-out that I’ve been privileged to be a part of, and I think it couldn’t be a more fitting moment. Am I getting my facts right? Forty-two years of service? Extraordinary. Forty-two years of service, detective 2nd grade, Lawrence Bromm, we are very proud, we are very appreciative of all you’ve done for this city. And your love for this city, your love for this police department, played out throughout your whole career.
You’ve been an example to the men and women of this force and to the people of the city. I want to thank your wife Theresa and your son Michael who’ve stood by you, kept you strong throughout. And just to let you know that for all of us in the Seven-Eight, the example you’ve set of strength, courage, fortitude, consistency, it’s meant a lot and it’s obviously inspired a lot of men and women in the years since. And for your service, we just feel a deep gratitude. And this is something that you can only—when you embark on public service, especially in uniform, you never know what’s out there. But to have provided to the people of this city such consistent, dignified service is all we can ever ask of someone and you’ve done it in an extraordinary way. And no matter what you’ve confronted, you’ve showed us all what it means to wear this uniform and to wear this badge. So could not be more proud or more appreciative, and I’m honored to share this moment with you.
