Transcript: Mayor de Blasio Delivers Remarks at the Brooklyn Children's Museum's Holi Festival

April 24, 2021

Mayor Bill de Blasio: Everybody, are you ready to throw beautiful colors at each other?

Audience: Yes!

Mayor: My staff told me there's an event where you go and people throw things at you. And I'm like, well, that's like a lot of events I go to. But this one sounds particularly cool. And to celebrate Holi together is going to be joyous for all of us. And I especially want to salute our Hindu brothers and sisters for whom this is such a joyous moment each year, a celebration of spring, a celebration of rebirth, and renewal. And we could use a celebration of rebirth and renewal right about now, right?

[Applause]

I want to thank Stephanie and everybody at the Children’s Museum for the incredible, wonderful work they do. Let's thank the Children’s Museum, we love them.

[Applause]

I want to thank our Commissioner for Cultural Affairs for the City of New York, Gonzalo Casals, and everyone at Cultural Affairs.

[Applause]

Who support this museum – hold on, new mic. Is it working? No. New mic. There you go. I'll just say it louder. Can you hear me okay? Can you hear me? All right, forget this. There you go. And let's thank the wonderful dancers too.

[Applause]

Take your bow. So, everybody, we are going to go outside in a moment. But listen, our city is coming back, the city we love, with passion, with vibrancy, with everything that we believe in as New Yorkers. Look around you, look at the beautiful rainbow of New York City. And today with this Holi Festival, we celebrate everything we love about the human family and family of New York City. Let’s go do it. Thanks, everybody.
