Mayor de Blasio Appoints Jon Halpern to Hudson River Park Trust Board of Directors

NEW YORK--Mayor de Blasio today announced the appointment of Jon Halpern to the Hudson River Park Trust Board of Directors. Halpern represents the Mayor’s third appointment to the Board, following his appointment of Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen and Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver last year.

Halpern brings a strong record of hands-on leadership to his new role, with experience spanning more than two decades and four successful businesses in the real estate industry. Halpern founded Halpern Real Estate Ventures (HREV) in 2011. In addition to his professional experience, Halpern is involved with both civic and charitable organizations.

The Hudson River Park Trust is a public benefit corporation with authority over the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the 550 acre Hudson River Park on the west side of Manhattan. The Trust’s Board of Directors consists of 13 Directors. Five are appointed by the Governor, five are appointed by the Mayor, and three are appointed by the Manhattan Borough President. Eight members are required for a quorum and Board approvals.

About Jon Halpern

Jon Halpern is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. Halpern began his career in real estate in 1985, stepping in to lead Halpern Enterprises, his family’s fourth-generation business in Westchester County, New York. He is the founder, managing partner, and CEO of Halpern Real Estate Ventures, and has over 25 years of professional experience in real estate investing.

Haplern currently serves on the boards of the R Baby Foundation and The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, and also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Astrum Homes, a Gurgaon, India-based real estate development company engaged in developing world-class residential solutions in emerging cities across the country. He has previously served as a Board Member and Executive Committee Member for the Westchester Medical Center.

Halpern is a resident of Tribeca, where he and his wife Sarah are engaged in both civic and charitable organizations. He is an instrument-rated pilot, and his hobbies include skiing, hiking and traveling.
