Qualifying New Yorkers are still eligible to enroll throughout the year; GetCoveredNYC provides free support in over 12 languages to assist in the process in each borough
NEW YORK—Mayor Bill de Blasio’s GetCoveredNYC initiative announced today over 150 upcoming health insurance enrollment events through the end of April. Tens of thousands of New Yorkers are still eligible to enroll in health insurance throughout the year, and GetCoveredNYC continues its proactive outreach in the five boroughs, including through neighborhood-enrollment events to connect uninsured New Yorkers with quality care.
“Access to affordable healthcare is a fundamental right,” said Mayor de Blasio. “In the face of federal disinvestment and misleading rhetoric, GetCoveredNYC continues to enroll New Yorkers to make that right a reality for all. This expansion will ensure more families throughout the five boroughs get the quality care they deserve.”
“Having health insurance can change lives, and that’s why it is so important that New Yorkers take advantage of the insurance enrollment events citywide to get covered!” said Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, Dr. Herminia Palacio. “Through the help of GetCovered specialists, New Yorkers will have free and easy help to get themselves and their families enrolled in healthcare. We urge all New Yorkers to get covered today!”
“GetCoveredNYC was founded on the principle that New Yorkers should have easy access to important government services where they live and work,” said Director of the Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit, Regina Schwartz. “With our continued partnerships across City agencies, and with elected officials and community organizations, GetCoveredNYC’s work in our communities is helping all New Yorkers live healthier lives.”
New Yorkers who meet the income requirement for Medicaid or the Essential Plan’s low or no-cost health insurance, as well as those with a qualifying life event, can enroll year-round. New Yorkers can call 311 or text CoveredNYC (SeguroNYC in Spanish) to 877877 to speak with a GetCoveredNYC enrollment specialist and begin their enrollment.
New Yorkers can attend any of the following events citywide to receive free in-person health insurance enrollment assistance. Enrollment events are held throughout the year, including at certain New York City Health Department offices. The Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit will announce additional events in the future.

GetCoveredNYC outreach specialists proactively engage uninsured New Yorkers, providing free support in over 12 languages to help people understand their eligibility and assist them throughout the enrollment process. The initiative also partners with elected officials and community-based organizations to further raise awareness of health insurance options through local events throughout the year in neighborhoods across the city.
Created by Mayor de Blasio in 2016, GetCoveredNYC is a citywide outreach initiative that helps all New Yorkers enroll in health insurance and access primary and preventive care. The initiative is a partnership between the Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit, NYC Health + Hospitals, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Human Resources Administration and MetroPlus Health Plan.
