Mayor Bill de Blasio: Everybody, I don’t have a voice right now, but I’m here to support your voice.
[Cheers]
One job should be enough – one job.
[Cheers]
My commissioner is going to speak for me, but I just want to say to you – keep fighting, we will stand by you, and we will all win together.
God bless you.
[Cheers]
Commissioner Lorelei Salas, Department of Consumer and Worker Protection: Good afternoon, everyone. How are you?
[Cheers]
So proud to be here today and stand with UNITE HERE, and especially to be here with Mayor Bill de Blasio.
[Cheers]
I know everyone would rather hear from him, but you’re stuck with me today.
[Laughter]
I’m Lorelei Salas, Commissioner for the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection. So, we’re here for you today – let me ask you, I have a question for you. Are you ready to fight for justice?
[Cheers]
I don’t know if they can hear you on Wall Street. Are you ready to push back against greed?
[Cheers]
Better – are you ready to get what you deserve?
[Cheers]
So, it’s no secret that corporate profits are sky high, but do you see your fair share? And it’s not an accident. Corporations are raking in millions of dollars, but you cannot get raises, you cannot get health care. The system is rigged against workers. Bosses get to fly first class, but workers can’t even get off the ground. But let’s not forget, we have the power. We stand together. And we will always protect the workers of New York City.
[Cheers]
Let me say a couple of things in Spanish –
[Commissioner Salas speaks in Spanish]
Thank you so much for the work that you do every day and let’s keep up the fight.
[Cheers]
