Catering Business Pathways and
Childcare Business Pathways provide customized training and resources to help NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA), NYCHA Section 8 residents, and low-income New Yorkers with start their own businesses. After an intensive business course, participants will receive benefits to formalize their businesses.
Catering Business Pathways
Catering Business Pathways program is an immersive business education program that helps NYCHA residents and low-income New Yorkers lead profitable catering companies.
Participants will receive:
- A fully funded professional catering business education course
- Mentorship and professional coaching opportunities
- Support obtaining the licenses need to grow their businesses
- Help securing commercial kitchen space through a one-on-one matching program
Eligibility Criteria
- NYCHA public housing resident or a NYCHA Section 8 voucher holder 18 years of age or older
- Actively selling food for at least the past year
- Able to cook multiple quality dishes, or have a partner with that skill
- Seeking to grow their business into a full-time venture
* Travel, childcare and other logistical issues must be resolved prior to enrollment into the FBP.

NYCHA's Office of Resident Economic Empowerment & Sustainability (REES), and supported by City Community Development.
Childcare Business Pathways
This no-cost 15-week business program is tailored to meet the needs of NYCHA entrepreneurs who want to start home-based childcare businesses. Our interactive classes streamline the training and licensing process of becoming an in-home childcare provider. Participants will receive:
- Guidance on business operating, marketing, and financial structures
- Funding to complete health and safety trainings
- One-on-one support to complete your child care provider application
Who can apply? You must meet the following criteria:
- NYCHA public housing resident (Note: NYCHA Section 8 voucher holders who live in a NYCHA public housing development are also eligible.)
- Experience taking care of children that are not your own
- Commit to attend 14 class sessions from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., two (2) Saturday workshops; and various weekday/weekend office hours and one-on-one application support sessions *
- Have a passion for children and starting a home-based childcare business **
* Travel, childcare and other logistical issues must be resolved prior to enrollment into the FBP.
** Passion can be showcased through previous and current experience working with children, commitment to the childcare industry, etc.
