Today Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani joined Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Iris Weinshall and Staten Island Borough President Guy Molinari to announce that the Department of Transportation will extend free ferry service for 13 weekend games involving the Staten Island Yankees this summer.
"For fans who want to try something different, baseball now has a beautiful new home here at the Richmond County Savings Bank Stadium," said Mayor Giuliani. "We're happy to announce that Staten Island Ferry service will be extended so that more fans and families can take in a game of professional baseball."
Commissioner Weinshall said, "With this extension of free ferries, New Yorkers now have more reason to come watch the defending New York Penn-League champions play ball against the backdrop of the most beautiful skyline in the world."
The service will be provided every weekend from June 19, up to and including Labor Day. Ferry service will run every half hour from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. (Ferries will depart from the Whitehall Terminal in Manhattan on the hour from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.; from the St. George Terminal on Staten Island, on the half-hour from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.)
The Staten Island Yankees will begin their Saturday games at 7:35 p.m. and
their Sunday games at 5:05 p.m.
