Local Law 85 Outreach & Training

Energy Code Outreach
For Local Law 85: NYC Energy Conservation Code (LL85), there are several resources available to help New Yorkers become more familiar with the fundamentals of low energy design and the processes available to demonstrate compliance.

Energy Code Guidelines
The New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) has a dedicated website for energy code guidelines, including application information, updates on forms and six training modules on the Energy Code in PDF format. Read Energy Code Guidelines.

Cracking the Code (4 Hours)
The New York Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (Urban Green Council) and the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA NY) have partnered to develop Cracking the Code, a 4-hour course addressing the particulars of LL85 compliance (2010 Energy Conservation Code of New York State and 2011 New York City Local Law 1; visit Energy Code for more information). The course is offered with a fee of $85, which includes a course manual. To see available classes and register, visit the Cracking the Code section on NYSERDA Energy Code Training. If you do not immediately see the link to register, click on Cracking the Energy Code, listed on the right hand side of the page under In Person Training.

Energy Code Compliance in New York City (2 Days)
The New York City Department of Buildings, the Continuing Education Department of Cooper Union and Viridian Energy & Environmental, LLC are offering a 2-day intensive training course on the most updated version of LL85 compliance.
